Michael watched August as she slept peacefully; he couldn't get any rest due to his brain running in circles. He wasn't worried about anything in particular, but he was thinking about how his life was going to change.
August's eyes fluttered when she heard Michael cough. "What's wrong baby, aren't you tired?" she asked half asleep.
"I'm just thinking, the next few months are gonna get hectic," he sighed.
"We'll manage Michael; it's you and me now."
Michael smiled at her as he got back into the bed. He cuddled her closer into a spooning position and turned off the nightlight. "It's you and me now," her words echoed in his mind. Finally, feeling sleepy, Michael closed his eyes and drifted off.
August and Michael hugged inside the private hangar at the airport where his private jet had landed. "Won't you just move in with me?" he asked hopefully.
"Michael, I know we are getting married, but your kids haven't met me yet. It's too soon for them to have a new person in their lives daily, but I can't wait to meet and get to know them," she said reassuringly.
Michael knew she was right, but he couldn't bear to be apart from her. "You're right; I just love seeing your face every night before I go to sleep, and every morning when I awake. This is gonna be hard," he said, as he felt his heart constricting.
While riding in the SUV to the main airport terminal, August noticed that she wasn't getting dropped off at the cab pick-up section. "Michael, you don't have to drop me off at home, I could have managed taking a cab."
Michael looked at her with a blank expression as he remembered what happened the last time she took a cab home from the airport. "I'm not taking the chance of you running into any of your old boyfriends again," he teased, but yet he was very serious. They had finally cemented their relationship, and he didn't want anything to get in the way of their peace.
When they arrived at August's apartment, Michael started kissing her fervently once they got inside. "Michael, no!! Your bodyguards are outside, and you have a meeting to attend," she said, pulling out of his grasp.
"Please, baby, I won't get the chance to see you for a few days," he pleaded.
Michael chased her into the bedroom, falling on top of her as they landed on the bed. Once they started to kiss, his cellphone rang. Michael answered his phone and sighed.
"We'll finish this soon," he whispered as he stroked her lips with his thumb.
"Saved by the bell," she teased.
"You're gonna pay for this," he said mischievously.
"I'm looking forward to it, Mr. Jackson." She smirked as she bit his bottom lip.
After a few more minutes of kissing and hugging, Michael finally left August's place and headed to his meeting at Sony Corporate. It was the same ole' same ole.' Feeling angry over the direction of his new album, Michael left the meeting early once again and went home.
When Michael arrived home, his kids were still in school. They had returned from their cousin's house a few days ago. He planned to have lunch with them and explain who August was to him. It was very important to him that his kids would like her. While he loved August, his kid's happiness came first.
"Hey, you three!" He chirped as he entered their classroom, located in one of the guest cottages at Neverland. Upon his entrance, their private tutor quietly excused herself to give Michael and his kids some privacy.
The three kids leaped at the sound of his voice, rushing into his arms as he gave each a big hug. After settling them back down at the table, he unpacked the lunch he prepared for the four of them. While he had the help of nannies, Michael preferred to take direct care of his kids and perform household chores as much as possible.
As Michael and his kids ate lunch, he turned to them and said, "You guys, I have someone I'd like you to meet very soon. She's a great friend of mine, and I know you three will like her, she's so excited to meet you!"
Excitedly, Blanket blurted, "what's her name, daddy?"
Smiling brightly, Michael simply replied, "Her name is August."
Looking inquisitively at Michael, Blanket exclaimed, "oh, it's the nice lady from inside the phone!"
Chuckling, Michael answered, "yes, it's the nice lady from inside the phone, and you'll all meet her soon."
After finishing lunch and catching up with his kids, Michael headed back to his home office to do some work. Even when he wasn't working on music, he still had plenty of work to do.
"What in the hell? I'm tired of this shit," he mumbled in disbelief. Going through his mail, he opened a court summons from someone trying to sue him yet again. In disgust, he threw the letter on the floor as he put his head down on his desk. He was supposed to call August that afternoon, but he had developed a major headache and decided to take a nap instead.
Later that evening, Michael finally pulled himself together to give August a call. "Hello, August... I'm sorry I didn't call earlier, I had a terrible headache," he said, feeling weak.
"Oh, no, baby... Is there anything I can do to help?" she asked tenderly.
Michael went silent as he was just tired of people coming for him, and he didn't want to bring August into any of his troubles. "Are you sure you want to marry me?" he asked quietly.
"Baby, what's wrong? This doesn't sound like you, can you tell me what happened today?" she asked in a serious tone.
Reluctant to answer her, he finally told her about the court summons.
"Michael, that's not a reason for me to be unsure of marrying you... We are in this together, remember?" she reminded him of their conversation earlier.
"Thank you, baby, I just want you to be happy," he said thoughtfully.
"I am happy, Michael. As long as you are in my life... I'm happy; I love you."
Closing his eyes, Michael whispered, "I love you more." After letting out a ragged breath, Michael changed the subject. "Are you free tomorrow afternoon? I'd love for you to meet my kids. I already told them about us... Or well the best I could explain".
August smiled to herself and answered, "Of course, I'd love to meet them, and I can't wait to meet my new little buddy Blanket."
Michael chuckled as he informed her that Blanket remembered their phone conversation from a month ago. "Ok, so I'll send my driver to your apartment tomorrow around noonish?" he said as his attitude cheered up a bit.
"I'll be ready. Go get some rest, sweetie, and I'll see you all tomorrow," she said as she hung up the phone.
August meeting Michaels's kids was a big step for them all. It had only been the kids and Michael for the past few years, but he remained optimistic that August and his kids would hit it off. He hoped that his kids would love her just as much as he and vice versa.
